The mission of the Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association is to actively encourage the development of fire and police commisioner leaders and to promote a high level of training and ethical standards of excellence in commission leadership and innovation; educate and train the fire and police commission members regarding the practice of hiring, promotion and discipline; and recognize the achievements of the individual members of the fire and police commissions.
I hope that everyone is enjoying and surviving the winter weather we are experiencing and looking forward to spring and the IFPCA Spring Seminar on May 2, 3 and 4 in Decatur.
I would like to take a quick minute and discuss some opportunities the IFPCA has. The association is in need of volunteers for the Executive Committee. We are looking for members with experience in the following fields - Membership, Information Technology, Web Development and Maintenance, and Municipal Law. We usually have between 4 and 5 meetings a year with two of them at the Seminars where I am always available. If you are interested in becoming a part of one of the most influential Commissions in the state of Illinois, please do not hesitate to contact the IFPCA office at (630) 571-1080.
I would also like to stress that a municipality with a population over 5000 residents is compelled by Illinois State Statute to create Fire and Police Commission board. I know that our membership committee has been working feverishly on this by reaching out to communities that have not been members of the IFPCA before. My thanks to Jon Hicks and Ann Marie Pryde for spearheading this committee, but they can always use more help. Also please talk to your neighboring communities and find out if they belong to the IFPCA; if not give them our information or get theirs and send it to the IFPCA office.
I am looking forward to serving as President and seeing you in Decatur. Please do not hesitate to say hello and I will do the same.
Tom Kucharski, President
Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association
